Spring 2017 Induction Banquet

The induction for new members into Beta Chi took place at Eastridge Country Club on April 28th, 2017.  We are honored to have inducted many bright and talented individuals into the chapter.  Also, congrats to Nancy Darland upon receiving the chapter’s Inaugural Patricia E. Thompson Research, Scholarship, and Service Award.

As the chapter continues to thrive and grow, involvement will be a big focus for the coming year.  With more activities in the works, be on the lookout for new and recurring events.

The spring membership meeting held on February 21st was fun! fun! fun! Thanks to all who came to the business meeting and also stayed for our craft project..... decorating an egg. Just a few of the topics discussed at the business meeting included initiation of the membership reactivation challenge, nomination and confirmation of the upcoming ballot for officers, approval of proposed budget and discussion of upcoming events.

Beta Chi is "rocking and rolling".  There are many opportunities to become involved with the chapter. If you are interested please contact us at betachiSTTI@gmail.com.

"Wine and Wigs for Water" Huge Success!

Beta Chi held its first social of the year on Friday, August 26th. Colorful wigs were donned in support of the chapter fundraiser for water.org. It was a fabulous start to an exciting year for Beta Chi. Approximately 30 people attended and over $300 were raised. Fun and laughter were had by all!

President's Welcome for 2017-2018

What an honor it has been work serve as your chapter president this past year. The Beta Chi Board has done a fantastic job. “The hardest working Board in the land”.  I am looking forward to yet another monumental year. In carrying forward our STTI President’s Call to Action; our year was full of philanthropy, learning, advocacy, .... and just plain fun! Our first ever Wine and Wigs for Water was a huge success. This social event was specifically geared for networking, laughter; and best of all, raising money for water.org.  Influencing the advancement of global health by supporting the initiative to bring clean water to everyone. Continuing in this new tradition, we will host another Wine and Wigs event, once again to raise money for this worthy cause.

Our annual Graham Price Strain Memorial Lecture enlightened participants on current myths on homelessness; while providing strategies for nurses to work with this specific patient population. In conjunction with this event, the chapter held a toiletry drive to collect personal hygiene items for a local rescue mission. Three huge boxes (and then some) were collected.  What an honor to be a part of such a wonderful organization. Ending the year was the annual banquet where honorees were provided a special night recognizing their efforts with induction into the STTI. Highlighting the banquet, and our year; was the announcement of our first ever Dr. Patricia E. Thompson Research, Scholarship and Service Award.  Named in honor our very own charter member and STTI CEO, Dr. Thompson, this award embodies the tenets of Sigma Theta Tau International – courage, honor, love.

This coming year proves to be as memorable as the last. With the upcoming STTI Biennial Convention in October and the Beta Chi Research Conference next March; I am privileged to be a part of such a distinguished, hard-working group of nurses. I challenge each of you to become engaged and re-commit to Beta Chi. Every member contributes to the success of this organization!
